From April 2016 all nurses and midwives will have to revalidate to maintain their registration with the NMC. Revalidation will help nurses and midwives demonstrate that they practise safely and effectively. Revalidation is about encouraging good practice across the whole population of nurses and midwives. It's not an assessment of a nurse or midwife's fitness to practice.

REVALIDATION REQUIREMENTS

1. You must have practised for a minimum number of 450 hours over the three-year period since your registration was last renewed or you joined the register.

2. You must have undertaken 35 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to your scope of practice in the three-year period since your registration was last renewed, or when you joined the register. You must maintain accurate records of CPD you have undertaken.

3. You must have obtained five pieces of practice-related feedback in the three-year period since your registration was last renewed or you joined the register.

4. You must have prepared five written reflective accounts in the three-year period since your registration was last renewed or you joined the register.

5. You must have had a reflective discussion with another NMC registrant, covering your five written reflective accounts on your CPD and/or practice-related feedback and/or an event or experience in your practice and how this relates to the Code. You must ensure that the NMC registrant with whom you had your reflective discussion signs the approved form recording their name, NMC Pin, email, professional address and postcode, as well as the date you had the discussion.

6. You must provide a health and character declaration.

7. You must declare that you have, or will have when practising, appropriate cover under an indemnity arrangement.

8. Submit a form with confirmer - the person who looks at the evidence you have collected and 'confirms' that you have met the revalidation requirements details.
